We here at Toronto Reds predict the outcome of today’s ‘401 Derby’. Will Toronto FC come out on top?
I’m sure many Toronto FC fans have marked this match down. It is the first time the Reds go to Montreal since that not so stellar playoff performance last fall.
This won’t be an easy TFC side for Montreal. The Reds look to have finally found a centre back pairing, with Drew Moor and Damien Perquis. Along with Will Johnson doing a lot of dirty work in the midfield, opening up room for Michael Bradley to make forward runs and support his DP pal’s.
Montreal is also not an easy task for TFC. The Impact are eighth in the league with 10 goals scored, while TFC sit 19th with six. Granted, there is a five way tie with six goals, but with Didier Drogba back in the starting XI, Montreal just got a major boost. We all know what he is capable of, and what this team became when he signed in August.
This was actually the hardest prediction for all of us here at Toronto Reds. We all want TFC to win, of course, but the Impact have been a very strong team. Let us know what you think, and make sure to follow our live thread throughout the match.
More from Toronto Reds
David: I think TFC walk away with a 1-1 draw. The 401 derby is always a game where emotions run high, but that can’t be the case here. That’s what knocked us out of the playoffs. Do they want revenge? Of course they do. Will a win give them said revenge. Not even close. This is the first of five meetings with Montreal and it’s hardly the most significant one. The boys will play to win but they’ll be conservative and do everything they can to walk out of Montreal with a point.
Anthony: With both teams coming off impressive win’s last week, I predict this match will be a 2-2 draw. The Impact are sorrowing up in the East and have not been an easy task for teams. Ignacio Piatti will need to be watched closely, but TFC already know’s that. Another player they know to watch is Dider Drogba. If the backline can watch these two closely and limit their chances, then maybe they can take three points from this match. However a draw is a fair result.
Matt: 2-1 TFC. This is a big opportunity to get revenge on the team that knocked us out of our first playoff appearance. I’m sure the boys are eager to play in this game, and will not make the same mistakes they did last year. Montreal also has quite a bit of pressure on this one, cause it’s their home opener (at Stade Saputo). Hopefully the Reds can capitalize on that, grab three points, and shut down Drogba.
Markus: I think 2-1 TFC. Jozy bags a brace and Drogba scores a fluke goal. This will be a big statement if they can go to Montreal and grab a win.
