Clint Irwin and Damien Perquis get rewarded for their hard effort in Toronto FC’s win against FC Dallas.
When you pick up your fourth clean sheet in nine games, you’re clearly doing something right. Toronto FC have played at an elite level defensively this season, and that’s resulted in a bevy of defensive players making the Team of the Week.
In the home opener, Clint Irwin stayed busy with three saves on the night, including a big toe save against FC Dallas to preserve the clean sheet. Damien Perquis, meanwhile, was the most active defender. They both earned an 8.5 in our latest edition of player ratings, and also represented Toronto FC in the MLS’ latest Team of the Week:

After struggling to stay healthy last campaign, Perquis looks set to put in big contributions this season. Him and Drew Moor may as well be called the Nights’ Watch since they’ve been a wall thus far. Clint Irwin is also, quite possibly, the greatest goalkeeper in franchise history, and he’s taken to his new surroundings very well.
He was clearly blown away, too, playing in his first game in front of the TFC supporters:
As the Vancouver Whitecaps are our next opponent, Masato Kudo’s appearance on the Team of the Week is worth noting. He was a big part of Vancouver’s win against Portland, as they somehow put two goals past Jake Gleeson – something that seemed impossible to do after his performance against us.
However, Toronto has shut out some of the best strikers the MLS has to offer while also having the very best one on its side. Confidence is at an all-time high on this side, and it’s hard to bet against TFC at this point.
