Preview: Houston Dynamo vs Toronto FC
This upcoming match will be a very challenging and unique test for John Herdman’s team, as Toronto FC from the Eastern Conference faces Houston Dynamo from the Western Conference. While Toronto FC is currently in eighth place in their conference, Houston Dynamo sits in sixth place in their respective conference with 37 points, coming into this match on a three-game unbeaten streak.
Unfortunately, both Houston Dynamo and Toronto FC were eliminated in the Round of 16 of the Leagues Cup, meaning both teams have had a significant break before returning to MLS play.
It’s also crucial to analyze the history between these two teams. It has been quite some time since these clubs last faced each other, with their last encounter being on February 16, 2022, when Houston Dynamo defeated Toronto FC 2-1.
The Difficult Match In The MLS
However, looking at the history of the last five matches between these two teams, Houston Dynamo clearly has the upper hand, having won three of those five games, while Toronto FC has only won one, with the other match ending in a draw. This sets a tough scenario for John Herdman’s side, who are fighting hard to secure a spot in the MLS Playoffs. Both teams are highly motivated as they return to MLS, with Houston Dynamo also vying for a playoff position in a fiercely competitive conference.
Toronto FC must approach this match with utmost focus. On August 24, they face a tough away game where they hope their key players will shine, and that the rest and work put in by John Herdman will pay off.
Adding to the challenge, just a few days later, Toronto FC will face Forge FC in the semifinals of the Canadian Championship, with an adverse result to overcome. They will need to stage a comeback at BMO Field, aiming to prove they are one of Canada’s top teams and deserve a spot in the final of this competition. It’s undoubtedly a very challenging week for Toronto FC.
