After several rumors suggesting that Toronto FC might loan out this player, it now seems his departure has been made official.
Mailula's exit is somewhat sensitive for Toronto FC, as there were high hopes that the South African player could find his place in John Herdman’s squad and contribute with his goal-scoring ability. Unfortunately, he never found a solid spot in the team. Despite Herdman's interest, the player could not fully establish himself due to the team's extensive roster, and his move to Moroccan football is now a reality.

Cassius Mailula Joins Wydad Athletic Club
Following strong interest from the Moroccan side, the 23-year-old has secured a move, reaching an agreement with Toronto FC. The player will be loaned out until December 2025, with the possibility of a permanent transfer depending on certain conditions.
However, John Herdman's appreciation for this player is evident, and it appears he doesn’t want to fully close the door on Mailula. The idea is to give the player significant minutes to adapt to a high level of competitive play, with the hope that he will return to Toronto FC stronger.
It is not out of the question that Wydad AC might purchase the player outright if he performs well. Mailula's qualities and potential are still waiting to be fully realized. Although his goal contribution at Toronto FC was not as high as expected, he showed glimpses of his value. During his time with Toronto FC, he played in only 5 matches, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist. While he was not a completely lethal offensive player, his participation when called upon was important.
In this new chapter for Mailula, everyone wishes him the best and hopes that he can unlock his full potential, with his goal contribution becoming a more significant part of his game in this next stage of his career.
