Toronto FC vs Vancouver Whitecaps
This will be the final of the 2024 Canadian Championship, where both teams come into the match with a strong showing in this year's competition. Both clubs advanced through their matches in impressive fashion, earning the right to compete in another final. It’s also noteworthy that both teams play in MLS and have become familiar rivals in recent years.
The match will take place on September 25 at BC Place, where the two teams will clash once again after facing off earlier this year in MLS. Looking at their history, Toronto FC hasn't had much success in recent encounters with Vancouver Whitecaps. In fact, we can recall the 2022 Canadian Championship final, where these two teams also faced each other. The match ended 1-1, but Toronto FC suffered the heartbreak of losing the final on penalties, with Jonathan Osorio missing the decisive penalty.
However, the situation is quite different now, with both teams currently in strong form. Toronto FC has won its last two matches since the conclusion of the Leagues Cup, while Vancouver has only played one match, which they won against Pacific FC.
Reviewing the last five meetings between these two teams, Vancouver has won four times, with the other match ending in a draw, indicating a challenging history for Toronto FC. But they will be looking to turn things around in the final on September 25, with John Herdman likely to deploy all his key players in pursuit of bringing the championship home.
