At a crucial point in the season, the end of the MLS regular season is approaching, and Toronto FC is fighting for a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

However, things are looking difficult, as with just a few games left, their playoff hopes are in jeopardy due to the tough loss against Columbus Crew. The game was decided by the outstanding performance of Colombian star El Cucho Hernández, who broke the deadlock and played a key role in Columbus Crew’s victory.

John Herdman was clear in his post-match comments, acknowledging that although his team creates goal-scoring opportunities, their efficiency in front of goal is lacking, and this is severely hurting TFC.

John Herdman Frustrated with the Result

In this match, it was evident that Toronto FC had some excellent chances to score in the first half, but their finishing let them down. Herdman pointed out that a lack of focus in the final third is preventing his team from capitalizing on their chances. Key players like Federico Bernardeschi and Lorenzo Insigne are instrumental in creating these opportunities, but if they aren’t converted into goals, crucial points are lost.

"We had to score in that first half. We had good chances, but just lacked that killer punch. That’s what makes the difference in these matches."

Herdman also spoke about TFC's dream of making the playoffs. It’s been several years since Toronto FC has managed to qualify for the playoffs in the regular MLS season, and the hope is that this year they can break that streak and make a strong push for the MLS Cup.

"“We were right there for long periods, but we weren’t clinical enough, Fede puts a cross in and someone has to arrive on the back post. They have to be there. [Like in] Orlando. You had two players there scoring that goal. That’s the difference."

However, with each passing game, the team’s lack of finishing ability continues to hold them back. While Herdman’s work with the team is viewed positively, it’s not entirely satisfying for the Toronto FC fanbase, who are frustrated by the team’s inefficiency in converting their chances into goals.
