In the final group stage match of the Leagues Cup, Toronto FC faced a highly challenging opponent in CF Pachuca, who had recently won against New York Red Bulls on penalties. The winner of this match would secure the top spot in the group and advance to the Round of 16. Although both teams were already qualified, this game would determine the next opponents for the knockout stage.

Toronto FC emerged victorious in a truly fantastic match where every player shone, clinching a dramatic win with a decisive goal in the 79th minute.

Perfect Match Development for John Herdman's Squad

Throughout the game, Toronto FC displayed a solid performance. John Herdman fielded his strongest eleven to tackle the challenge, which paid off. In the first half, Toronto was aggressive in their pursuit of goals, with Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi fully engaged in the match.

This was highly positive for the team, as Lorenzo Insigne provided a fantastic assist in the 44th minute, setting up Derrick Etienne Jr. to score the first goal. Toronto FC went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, CF Pachuca made several substitutions in an attempt to turn the game around and secure the group lead. However, Toronto FC remained comfortable on the field. Notably, midfielders Cosi Thompson and Matty Longstaff were outstanding in a highly competitive match.

However, misfortune struck for John Herdman’s side as Ousama Idrisi equalized for CF Pachuca in the 59th minute. Despite Sean Johnson's efforts, he couldn't prevent the goal. Herdman responded by making strategic substitutions, including introducing Henry Wingo in the 67th minute, replacing Raúl Petretta.

The most crucial change was substituting Federico Bernardeschi for Kobe Franklin. Franklin, in fantastic form, made an immediate impact. Coming on in the 71st minute, he scored the decisive goal in the 78th minute, shooting in a precise cross from Marshall-Rutty to make it 2-1.
