This Toronto FC player, who isn’t one of the key players in John Herdman’s squad, might be leaving the club. Due to a lack of playing time, he could be loaned out, giving him the chance to have a more active career and gain valuable minutes, potentially moving away from MLS to join an African club.
Cassius Mailula Could Be Loaned to a Moroccan Club
Reports suggest that this 23-year-old South African player has not had much playing time this season and hasn’t been a regular part of John Herdman’s plans at Toronto FC. This season, Mailula has only played five matches with the first team, where he has scored two goals and provided one assist.
These contributions came during the Canadian Championship, as Toronto FC is currently in the semifinals, facing a tough series against Forge FC, who have the advantage in the aggregate score. However, the return leg of this semifinal is still to be played at the end of August.
As for Cassius Mailula's departure, he joined Toronto FC in 2023 and is under contract until December 2026. However, it seems that a full transfer out of the club is not what John Herdman has in mind, as he hopes to count on Mailula for next year, where he could have more opportunities to play for The Reds.

Nonetheless, Wydad AC, a Moroccan team, has shown significant interest in the South African forward, and it is likely that Mailula could be loaned out in the coming days. Additionally, there was an offer from Croatian club HNK Gorica, which was very keen on acquiring the player, but they couldn’t reach an agreement with Toronto FC, and the offer was rejected.
Mailula is a player with interesting qualities and potential, but unfortunately, it hasn’t been fully realized. It seems that the right winger will need to seek playing time elsewhere to continue developing his great potential.
