The tragic season for Toronto FC has come to an end, showing a much more positive development compared to the previous year. In 2023, Toronto FC was practically the worst team, but in 2024 we saw significant improvement.

Despite not making it to the MLS playoffs in the Eastern Conference, the team improved in terms of victories and mentality. However, this was still not enough, as with the current roster and the salaries of many players, there were higher expectations for Toronto FC to reach greater stages in the U.S. championship. Now, John Herdman has expressed his sadness and dissatisfaction with the results, while committing to continue working for the good of the club.

John Herdman’s Strong Statements

In his end-of-year press conference, the English coach, John Herdman, made it clear that he will continue to work hard with Toronto FC. While there is no ruling out a potential exit for the coach, he remains the head coach for now, and it is expected that he will lead the team in the 2025 season with hopes of redemption in all the competitions TFC participated in during 2024.

Toronto FC reached the Canadian Championship final but unfortunately lost in a penalty shootout, and in MLS, they were just three points away from securing the eighth spot to qualify for the playoffs.

Although this was a positive season compared to previous years, the team is often criticized for not achieving more, given the talented roster they possess. With players like Federico Bernardeschi and Lorenzo Insigne, TFC is always expected to deliver a top performance on the field.

John Herdman also expressed his gratitude to the fans, acknowledging how they always supported the team through adversity. Now, he must not only work on the squad but also with the administration, as there are several upcoming signings for Toronto FC. These will be essential in competing next season, with the expectation that TFC will undergo a major rebuild in preparation for 2025.
