The MLS season has come to an end for Toronto FC, the only team in the Eastern Conference to have completed all 34 matches.
While other teams still have one more game to play, with the final stretch of the season promising excitement as teams compete for playoff spots in the Eastern Conference, Toronto FC is already out of contention. With 37 points from 34 matches, Toronto finished in 10th place in the Eastern Conference and failed to qualify for the MLS Playoffs.

Another Failure for Toronto FC in MLS
With the current roster, expectations were high that Toronto FC would make it back to the MLS Playoffs this season. The team had a competitive squad, and with John Herdman at the helm, many hoped for a positive run in 2024.
Unfortunately, that did not happen. Toronto FC completed all 34 of their matches, securing 11 wins, 4 draws, and suffering 19 losses—a difficult record that left them with just 37 points this season. It became clear that this team was not strong enough to compete for a playoff spot.
Toronto FC also struggled defensively, finishing as one of the most scored-against teams in the Eastern Conference. They conceded 61 goals while only scoring 40, resulting in a negative goal difference of -21.
This is a concerning issue, as Toronto had the second-worst goal difference in the conference, only behind New England with -29. These defensive struggles highlight the problems Toronto FC faced this season, and it’s something that will need to be addressed going into the 2025 season.
As of now, it is unclear how the club's management will change the current dynamic that has led to poor results in recent years. The team must think about building for the future, possibly moving away from relying on star players, as Federico Bernardeschi and Lorenzo Insigne were not decisive in this season’s campaign either.
