Toronto FC has bolstered its midfield with the signing of English midfielder Matty Longstaff, announcing a two-year contract extension that could potentially stretch through 2026.

Pending the completion of his medical tests and the International Transfer Certificate, Longstaff will soon join the Toronto FC roster.

Head Coach John Herdman expressed his excitement about Longstaff's arrival, highlighting the midfielder's Premier League experience and dynamic playing style as valuable additions to the team's midfield depth and tactical strategy.

At 23 years old, Longstaff brings with him a wealth of experience from his time at English club Newcastle United. During his four-year tenure, he made 20 appearances, including 14 in the prestigious Premier League.

Longstaff made headlines on his Premier League debut on October 6, 2019, scoring a memorable winner against Manchester United. His remarkable strike from outside the box earned him the Premier League Goal of the Month award, a rare feat for a debutant since August 2016.

Longstaff's journey also included three loan spells, with stints at Scottish club Aberdeen FC and EFL League Two sides Mansfield Town and Colchester United. Across these loan moves, he amassed a combined total of 23 appearances, gaining valuable experience and further honing his skills.

On the international stage, Longstaff has represented England at the youth level, earning two caps for the U20 team. His debut came against Portugal U20 on November 14, 2019, showcasing his talent and potential on the international scene.
