Toronto FC's head coach, John Herdman, is optimistic about the upcoming season as players showcase top fitness levels during training camp. Despite a challenging 2023 season and ongoing roster adjustments, Herdman sees potential in the revamped squad.
"The players have put in a shift over the off-season, and we're focused on resetting and starting anew," said Herdman. After medicals and fitness tests, the team is set to begin on-field training in Palm Beach, Florida.
Following a disappointing 4-20-10 season, the squad faces uncertainties in defense and midfield. Herdman aims to solidify the team's structure around veteran Sean Johnson while integrating new talents like Luka Gavran and Greg Ranjitsingh.
Jonathan Osorio, the longest-serving player, believes the team has a significant opportunity to change its narrative. Despite acknowledging the challenges ahead, Osorio and the squad are committed to the journey.
Toronto FC's preseason includes a friendly against Nashville SC on Feb. 2 in Palm Beach and a California tour with matches against Columbus Crew, Real Salt Lake, and Los Angeles FC. Herdman emphasizes physical preparation and building team culture during the Florida training camp.
