Toronto FC have had a good start to the 2024 MLS season. So far, the Reds sit fifth in the table, maintaining an impressive 2-1-1 return. For context, they finished bottom of the Western Conference last season, so it goes to show the great improvement they have already shown.

There's no denying that a key figurehead in this improvement is Jonathan Osorio. The Toronto FC captain knows the club like the back of his hand and he is an experienced veteran who continues to provide his absolute best each gameweek.

In his 11th year with the club, the midfielder has made three appearances for The Reds so far this season, missing the most recent match against the NYCFC. It goes without saying that Toronto missed his midfield work as they lost the match 2-1, despite facing ten men for the closing 22 minutes.

But, what is the extent of Jonathan Osorio's injury and should Toronto FC fans be fearful?

Well, as per CBC, Jonathan Osorio will be sidelined on international duty. This weekend, Canada face Trinidad and Tobago in an important Copa America qualifying match. It is believed that a "hip injury" will see the Toronto veteran miss this match. It is the same injury which kept Osorio from playing for The Reds against NYCFC.

So, no need to worry about a further injury, but it's not nice to see one of the best Toronto players miss out on international duty. As stated within the CBC article, Osorio would have been one of the more senior Canadian players in the roster, so he was a candidate to captain them in the qualifier.

Toronto FC fans hope the veteran has a speedy recovery. It remains to be seen whether he will be available for selection before the Reds host Sporting KC at the end of March.

How would you rate Jonathan Osorio's 2024 so far?
