In the nascent stages of the 2024 MLS campaign, Toronto FC supporters find themselves buoyed by a newfound optimism, a stark departure from the disillusionment that clouded the latter part of the previous season.

While various factors contribute to this resurgence, including the appointment of John Herdman as coach and the stellar performances of key players like Jonathan Osorio, Lorenzo Insigne, and Federico Bernardeschi, there remains one glaring gap in the roster: a proficient striker.

Following Toronto FC's recent 3-1 loss to Sporting Kansas City, Herdman addressed the pressing need for a striker during his post-match conference. Despite acknowledging the valiant efforts of certain players, he underscored the team's persistent search for a No. 9.

"I think it’s been a discussion across the club since last season, this constant conversation about that center-forward role."

Herdman emphasized the club's unwavering commitment to finding the right fit, acknowledging the relentless efforts of the players while expressing confidence in eventual success.

"As a club, we are always looking. The window is still open, but these guys are putting a hell of a shift in, and we are expecting something is going to come from that effort in time."

While celebrating the team's overall progress, Herdman highlighted specific areas for refinement, including tactical adjustments and sharper decision-making in the attacking third.

Despite the challenges posed by the absence of a prominent striker, Toronto FC remains resolute in their pursuit of offensive excellence. With the transfer window offering opportunities for reinforcement and a determined squad ready to compete, the club's quest for a prolific striker persists.
