After their first League's Cup match against NY Red Bulls, which they won via penalty shootout, Toronto FC secured two crucial points in their group, thanks to the outstanding performance of Sean Johnson.

TFC shares the group with NY Red Bulls and CF Pachuca, with each team playing only two matches. With their first win, Toronto FC has already advanced to the next stage of the League's Cup.

A Victory Elsewhere Secures John Herdman's Team's Qualification

This qualification came about because the match between CF Pachuca and NY Red Bulls ended in a draw, leading to a penalty shootout. The only way Toronto FC’s advancement could have been jeopardized was if NY Red Bulls had won on penalties, but they were once again defeated by CF Pachuca.

The match between these two teams ended 1-1 after regulation time. NY Red Bulls took the lead with a goal from Elias Manuel in the 47th minute, but Pachuca quickly equalized in the 56th minute, leading to penalties. Pachuca's penalty victory positively impacted Toronto FC, relieving them of much pressure for their upcoming match against the Mexican team.

Toronto FC will face Pachuca on August 4th in the final group stage match of the League's Cup. With their qualification already secured, TFC can afford to rest and rotate players who have accumulated significant minutes this season.

This news is crucial for the team, especially after last year’s League's Cup, where they failed to win either of their matches. This year, under John Herdman, the team has shown resilience and improvement.

In the 2024 season, Toronto FC is expected to compete strongly in the League's Cup. Though the path from the Round of 16 to the final will be challenging, it is hoped that John Herdman will have his best players available and that the team will be mentally prepared to conquer the League's Cup.
