Today in History: The signing of Kyle Bekker in 2013!
Born in Ontario to parents from Quebec and British Columbia, Kyle Bekker's diverse upbringing extended beyond soccer, encompassing basketball, track, and volleyball.
His journey to professional soccer involved training stints with Toronto FC, Montreal Impact, and Seattle Sounders, followed by a trial with Crystal Palace in 2012.
However, work permit issues led him to sign a pro contract with MLS and enter the 2013 MLS SuperDraft.
Selected by Toronto FC in the first round (third overall), Bekker embarked on his MLS career. After a successful stint, the midfielder was transferred to FC Dallas on January 21, 2015. His debut for Dallas occurred on March 14, entering as a substitute in a 3–1 victory against Sporting Kansas City.
Bekker spent two seasons in Toronto, featured in some matches for FC Dallas the following season, and then played three and a half seasons in American D2 before joining Forge FC, where he has been playing since 2019.
