Newcastle United's star midfielder, Sean Longstaff, recently discussed his current situation and future aspirations in an interview published in FourFourTwo this week. With his contract set to expire in June 2025, rumours suggest that the 26-year-old could be on the move this summer.

Recently, Sean's younger brother, Matty Longstaff, signed a two-year deal with Toronto FC at the end of February. With an option to extend his stay until 2026, Matty's move to the MLS has sparked speculation about Sean's potential interest in joining him in Canada.

When asked about the possibility of playing in Canada himself, Sean expressed enthusiasm, stating, "Oh, a million per cent. In an ideal world, that’s how it’ll end. That’s where I want to retire." Despite his interest in a transatlantic move, Sean remains focused on his current role at Newcastle United, where he has been a key player this season.

Having started 22 Premier League games and made additional appearances in the UEFA Champions League, Sean has proven himself as a valuable asset for Newcastle. With four goals and two assists to his name in the Premier League this season, Sean's contributions have been instrumental in the team's success.

Reflecting on his upbringing and influences, Sean credits his father, David Longstaff, a former professional hockey player, for instilling in him a passion for sports. While hockey may hold a special place in the Longstaff family's heart, football ultimately became Sean's chosen path, thanks to his father's guidance and support.

As for Matty, he has already made four appearances for Toronto FC, showcasing his talent on the pitch. Despite facing challenges, including a recent loss to Sporting KC, Matty remains determined to make an impact for his new team.

While Toronto FC prepares for their upcoming match against a formidable opponent at BC Place, Sean's future aspirations and Matty's current journey with the team add an intriguing dynamic to the football landscape. Whether Sean will eventually join his brother in Canada remains to be seen, but for now, both players are focused on their respective roles and ambitions in the sport.
