John Herdman’s Disappointment Over Missed Opportunity
Toronto FC's coach shared his feelings of disappointment and sadness about the team's performance. Despite starting the match under difficult conditions, the team managed to play strongly and even got close to equalizing.
"“It’s just the disappointment of missing out on an opportunity. It’s a tough place to come, but we put ourselves in a bit of a hole in that first 15 minutes. It was good to see the lads fight back, but you always know it’s going to be a balancing act with their quality."

Unfortunately, they couldn't convert their chances, and despite their efforts in the second half—where they took advantage of Inter Miami playing with one less man—their winning streak was halted. The experienced and confident Inter Miami team ultimately left Toronto FC empty-handed.
"“I think the second half, they did a good job just managing what they needed to manage and defending the width of the goal. But at the same time, we needed more in that crazy game. It’s a missed opportunity for our club. We were on a good run until this game. But what we got to see there was a team that’s won this competition and a team that’s top of MLS. When you experience that, you start to realize what the difference is."

Herdman highlighted the impressive performance of Prince Owusu, who came on as a substitute after Federico Bernardeschi's injury. The team hopes for Bernardeschi's swift recovery.
"I was really impressed with [Owusu]’s quality tonight, his link-up play was at the level we’re pushing for him,” Herdman said. “We’ve got to get balls into the box more frequently because when we did, Prince was eating it up."

Toronto FC will now rest and need to return with the same competitive mindset to aim for a spot in the MLS playoffs and to overturn their deficit against Forge FC in the Canadian Championship.
