Michael Bradley and Federico Bernardeschi named to MLS Team of the Week
Well, that was quick. It only took one game for one of the newly signed Designated Players at Toronto FC to crack the MLS Team of the Week.
The MLS announced on Monday that TFC forward Federico Bernardeschi and midfielder Michael Bradley have been named to the Team of the Week for Week 22 following impressive outings in their 4-0 win over Charlotte FC this past weekend.
Saturday's match marked the start of a new era for Toronto FC. The night featured Italian international's Bernardeschi and Lorenzo Insigne making their highly-anticipated TFC debuts in front of a sold-out BMO Field.
Toronto cruised to a comfortable victory over Charlotte, the latest MLS expansion side, with the Italians' help and earned three crucial points in an important match as they push for an MLS Cup playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Bernardeschi scored his first MLS goal and registered an assist for the Reds, while captain Bradley scored an impressive brace, the second of his career, as he led his side to the dominant win. Bradley was also named the MLS Player of the Week on Monday.
Additionally, winger Insigne also notched his first assist with the club after providing a cheeky pass to Bradley on his second goal.
Toronto is now six points behind FC Cincinnati, who holds the final playoff position in the East. The Reds have 12 regular season matches left and will need as many points as possible.
Making the playoffs will not be easy for the Reds, but it's possible with this squad they've put together. Toronto will need their top stars performing every night, and they'll need to take advantage of every match, especially at home. TFC need as many points as they can get, so it's all about winning now more than ever.
