Ahead of the match against Chicago Fire, John Herdman discussed how the team needs to improve for the second half of the season.

For TFC, holding onto the lead when they are ahead has been challenging. Herdman touched on the team's emotions and how they are often not managed well, leading to dropped points that could cost them the season.

It's important to note that TFC will be missing several players for this match, but Herdman is confident in his squad and believes he has the key pieces to cover for these absences. He also confirmed that a positive stretch of the season is coming for Toronto FC as they aim to be the best and move closer to the top four spots in the Eastern Conference.

"We know we will be better in the second half of the season. We will know the teams, know the venues, know what’s coming, and know our players better. We’ve grown a lot, but there’s another level there."

He also addressed how fouls are becoming a problem for the team, especially "unnecessary fouls," as this excessive aggression can lead to future absences.

"The cards we are picking up because of our aggressive style and nature, we will continue in that space. We have to do it,” he told reporters. “It’s important to have a fighting spirit on the field, but it must be within the competitive rules and limits of the game."

As MLS competition resumes, Herdman has been talking to the squad about capitalizing on goal-scoring opportunities since the final results are often decided towards the end of the matches. He wants to secure the games from the start, believing in the team's ability to control the match.

"We talked about it this week. Many of the goals we’ve conceded have been in the second half; it seems our concentration levels drop a bit. We need to stay focused and disciplined at all times."
