TFC was expected to win against one of the worst teams in MLS, the Chicago Fire, but the match ended in a 1-1 draw, with both teams sharing the points. Now, John Herdman must assess what needs to be improved for Toronto FC to win their remaining games and secure a spot in the MLS playoffs.

A Difficult Match for Toronto FC
The match was not full of excitement, nor did either team dominate possession. Instead, it was a slow-paced game with poor transitions from both sides, mainly due to a lack of clear ideas and offensive creativity.
This resulted in a 1-1 draw, with Chicago Fire looking stronger toward the end of the match. Toronto FC started with a competitive lineup, including key players such as Jonathan Osorio, Federico Bernardeschi, and Prince Owusu in the attack, while Lorenzo Insigne remained on the bench.
In the first half, there weren’t many chances until a penalty was awarded to Toronto FC in the 45th minute plus four of stoppage time. Prince Owusu converted the spot-kick, scoring again this season and giving Toronto FC a 0-1 lead heading into halftime.
Late Drama and a Missed Opportunity
In the second half, both teams made substitutions, and unfortunately, one of Chicago Fire’s substitutes made the difference. Jonathan Dean, who came on in the 75th minute, scored the equalizer in the 84th minute, leaving Toronto FC without any clear options to retake the lead.
The only significant chance came in the 88th minute when Lorenzo Insigne missed a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Despite a brief moment of good football from Toronto FC, they couldn’t find the back of the net.
The match ended 1-1, and now TFC must focus on the remaining two games of the season, which will both be played next week. Toronto FC will host New York Red Bulls and Inter Miami at BMO Field, hoping to win both matches and secure a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The dream of competing for the MLS Cup is still alive, but TFC will need to step up in these final matches.
