In a very difficult match for Toronto FC, it became clear that their second-to-last game of the MLS season took a turn for the worse. While it was expected that, playing at home at BMO Field, Toronto FC would put on a great performance and show that they are capable of making the MLS playoffs, this was not the case.
The team suffered a significant loss, which now puts them in a very tough position to secure a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Now, Toronto FC will need to rely on other results, in addition to winning their final game against Inter Miami, while also depending on teams like Philadelphia Union, DC United, and others to falter.

Federico Bernardeschi Sent Off Against New York Red Bulls
In this penultimate MLS match, John Herdman fielded a highly competitive team, hoping to see a game filled with energy and determination from his players. The match began with Toronto FC showing a lot of fight, looking eager to take control of the game and score.
Federico Bernardeschi was expected to lead the way for the team, orchestrating the attack. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. As the match progressed and with Toronto FC trailing, Bernardeschi’s frustration boiled over. In the 43rd minute, he received his first yellow card, and in the 74th minute, a second, resulting in his expulsion from the game.
With Bernardeschi’s red card, Toronto FC found themselves in an even more difficult situation, trailing 1-3 with 16 minutes left to play. The situation worsened when New York Red Bulls scored a fourth goal late in the match, sealing a 1-4 victory for the visitors.
This loss made it clear that Toronto FC is not in the best shape to make the playoffs, and now the team will need to focus on ending the regular season on a high note. Their last match will be against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, but unfortunately, Toronto’s chances of making the playoffs remain very slim. Ending the season with a victory would be an ideal way to close out this difficult campaign.
