According to a report from the Daily Mail, the deal to bring in Josh Sargent to Toronto FC from Norwich City is finally done. The transfer, confirmed early Friday morning, marks the end of a protracted saga that saw the striker frozen out of the Norwich squad after a heated dispute regarding his future.

After rumours that surfaced in December about a potential move to MLS, Sargent has reportedly made the move to Toronto. This signing signals a massive shift in the club's ambition by paying the $22 Million to bring U.S. Men's National Team (USMNT) forward Josh Sargent to BMO Field from English Championship side Norwich City. Sargent reportedly will be signing a five-year deal with TFC.

At $22 million, the 26-year-old—who coincidentally celebrates his birthday today—becomes the second or third most expensive signing in MLS history. He trails only Son Heung-min’s $26.5 million move to LAFC and sits right alongside Atlanta United’s acquisition of Emmanuel Latte Lath.

Sargent arrives in Toronto with a reputation for physical, blue-collar efficiency in front of goal. His stats at Norwich speak to a player who has found his clinical edge. In 157 appearances for the club, Sargent has netted 56 goals. During the 2023-24 Championship season, he potted his career-high 16 goals. Despite being sidelined since January due to the transfer dispute, he notched 7 goals in 22 league games this season.

Known for his work rate and aerial presence, Sargent is expected to be the focal point of a revamped attack featuring fellow American Djordje Mihailovic. To say Toronto FC struggled to find the net in 2025 would be an understatement. The club finished 12th in the Eastern Conference, missing the playoffs for a fifth consecutive season. Most notably, TFC ranked dead-last in MLS in Expected Goals (xG).

After buying out the contracts of Italian DPs Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi last summer, General Manager Jason Hernandez has spent the winter cleaning house. Sargent is the Desingated Player striker that will help to turn 14 draws last season into victories.

For Sargent, this isn't just a change of scenery - it’s a rescue mission for his international career. With the 2026 FIFA World Cup looming this summer on home soil, Sargent is on the bubble under USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino. By moving to MLS and securing guaranteed minutes, he hopes to leapfrog competitors like Haji Wright and Ricardo Pepi.

Sargent is expected to undergo his medical in Toronto this weekend. While he won't suit up for tomorrow's season opener against FC Dallas, he could make his debut as early as next week.
