Follow the 401 Derby between Toronto FC and the Montreal Impact with our live game thread.
Is today the day we’ve been dreading, or waiting for? Today, our long-time rivals the Montreal Impact will host Toronto FC in what will surely be a fierce derby match, yet I can’t seem to answer my own question. It seems an inquiry that can only be answered once the final whistle blows at Stade Saputo.
More from Toronto Reds
Didier Drogba is set to make his first start of the season today after making two cameo appearances against Chicago and Dallas, scoring his first goal of the season last week in Chicago. Drogba will come as a big test for Toronto FC’s league-leading defence, who will also have to deal with Ignacio Piatti and Dominic Oduro (yes, I said Dominic Oduro).
Laurent Ciman and co will certainly not have their work cut out for them, with Sebastian Giovinco already in midseason form this year with four goals and two assists, while Jozy Altidore is hungry for his first goal of the season after an injury kept him out of action for the first couple of weeks.
Don’t expect much in terms of a change of tactics from Vanney, and expect the same side that took a 1-0 win away from DC last week to take the pitch. We can also expect Toronto FC to play for a draw. It’s certainly not ideal, and will likely make fans upset especially if we lose the game, but there is a strong chance Vanney sees this game as three points and not a derby. We do play Montreal five times this year, after all.
